Interviews and Surveys

The purpose of these tools is to understand teachers’ perceptions of the professional learning experience and how well the professional learning aligns with the goals of the district. We used specific protocols to elicit insights into how engaged teachers were throughout their professional learning experience, how confident and prepared they felt to implement argumentation in their classrooms, and what areas they requested to revisit in future follow-up sessions.


  • Summer 2019: After facilitating a 10-day Summer Institute for the Science Merit Teachers
  • Summer 2020: After facilitating a 5-day Leadership Institute
  • Summer 2020: After the individual PL team interviews


The Research and Evaluation team used surveys to gather teachers’ reactions and perspectives on (1) argumentation-focused professional learning experiences and (2) professional learning experiences that followed the initial week-long professional learning experience.
