Session 18: The Power of Reflection


In this session participants consider the value of reflective practice and how it can support their professional learning, particularly as they build their practice of argumentation in the classroom. Participants are introduced to a reflective task for observing and analyzing videos of their own and other educators’ interactions for the purpose of improving teaching practice in specific ways. They are introduced to a video reflection protocol and then experience what this looks and feels like, viewing a video clip of an instructors’ practice and sharing feedback in a whole group setting. Finally, participants hear from their coaches about their experiences with the video reflection piece of this project, then consider their concerns about using this protocol, and what they hope will come out of it.
