Session 17: Convergence of the Argumentation Standards
SESSION OVERVIEW
In this session, participants examine the argumentation standards across the disciplines to identify similarities and differences. They then spend time reading and discussing the FOSS (Full Option Science System) Science-Centered Language Development (SCLD) Chapter and begin thinking about convergence within their own practice. Note, the examples given use FOSS curriculum, however, any science together with an English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum designed to meet the respective NGSS and Common Core ELA standards can be used.
*FOSS® (Full Option Science System) is a research-based science curriculum for grades Pre-K–8 developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley, and published and distributed by Delta Education/School Specialty. The FOSS Program bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students and teachers in enduring experiences that lead to deeper understanding of the natural and designed worlds.
