Professional Learning
Improving Practice Together developed professional learning materials to support upper elementary classroom teachers to facilitate classroom argumentation in science. We also developed research and evaluation resources to understand the impact of professional learning experiences related to argumentation in science. Here are professional learning resources, research and evaluation instruments, and findings related to IPT’s professional learning model.
Teachers in the IPT professional learning program improve their facilitation skills (Asking open-ended questions, Pressing for elaboration, and Linking student contributions), and students improve their discourse skills (Explaining their reasoning, Co-constructing ideas with other students, and Critiquing others’ arguments). See Science Discourse Practices for more information on each skill.
