Session 24: Reflection on Argumentation as a Pedagogy

SESSION OVERVIEW

In this session, participants are asked to return to their original small groups to create a new concept map that is reflective of their current understanding of scientific argumentation. They are asked to include a way to show how argumentation as a scientific practice is different from argumentation as a pedagogy on the map. Participants are given their prethink concept maps from day 1 to determine in what ways their thinking has changed and in what ways their thinking has stayed the same. Finally, participants reflect on their own understanding and areas for continued growth.

SESSION OBJECTIVES

Theme Goals
Argumentation – Connect ideas about academic discussion and argumentation
